Lawrence p. Dank

Lawrence P. Dank is a lifelong learner and long time resident of the South Bay. Known for his creative style and illustrative tattoo work, he is particularly fond of tattooing classic book illustrations and traditional tattoos. Lawrence was educated at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles and at Pietrasant School of Sculpture in Italy. His tattoo artworks are influenced by early vintage animators from the 1930’s and the art culture of Cleveland in the ‘70s. Through a myriad of experiences as a fine artist, metal fabricator, and sculptor assistant, Lawrence developed a great passion for the arts and a tremendous respect for the learning process. Along with his love of tattooing anime and animation, his preferred mediums include acrylic on canvas, as well as marble and bronze sculptures.

Outside of practicing his tattoo craft, Lawrence enjoys surfing, learning about tattoo history, and pursuing artistic and creative endeavors as a freelance illustrator. Having worked in commercial and industrial metal fabrication, Lawrence mastered the mechanics of design and developed a great sense of visual space.

He understands the construct of how things work, fit, and occupy space, and he uses art as an expressive, artistic medium. His ability to draw like he sculpts, with great depth, is a particular asset to his tattooing as he draws on the body in 3D, not flat and one dimensionally. Lawrence pushes to be the best, most original artist he can be, inspiring others through his work, as his previous mentors inspired him.

“High contrast and bold images make me smile.’’
